Northern California Activities

When visiting Northern California, there are plenty of great activities and attractions surrounding the city of Vacaville.  There may be slight travel involved, however, it is all within a one-hour time frame.  It will be worth it to see some of the great sights that only this area of California has to offer.

Napa Wine Tasting

Some of the most popular wines that are well known throughout the United States are produced in Napa, California.  Famous wineries located in or near Napa include; Duckhorn, Stags Leap, Beaulieu Vineyards, The Hess Collection Winery, Clos Du Bois, Domaine Chandon and over one hundred more within the area.  There are excellent wine tours to go on while visiting the area that is an excellent choice to avoid driving and enjoy tastings.  Not to mention the wineries in the area are often fairly spread out from one another so a tour is a great way to go.

Sonoma Canopy Tours, Safari West, and Wine tasting

Just North of the city of Benicia is the city of Sonoma.  It is not far from Napa so it also has incredible wineries to visit and also offers other great activities that a family could also enjoy.  One of the attractions of this region is called Safari West.  This is a wildlife preservation site where visitors can take a safari tour to see zebras, giraffes, rhinos, and even camp in safari style tents that have been modern updates such as electricity and indoor plumbing.  Another regional attraction (as long as you’re not afraid of heights) is to soar treetop on a zip line with Sonoma Canopy Tours.

Marin County – Sausalito city, Marin Headlands historical hiking, Golden Gate Bridge view

The area of Marin County is located just North of San Francisco.  It is one of the most prestigious areas of the country to reside as the location is quiet outside San Francisco yet easily accessible by simply crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.  Marin is comprised mostly of suburban mountain towns and nature-centric activities such as The Marin Headlands.  Hiking trails are abundant as well as historical along the way to the top where views of the Golden Gate Bridge are so beautiful that it is a spot where many postcard photos from the area are taken.

San Francisco – Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, Union Square, and Chinatown

Not far from the city of Benicia is downtown San Francisco with abundant attractions and things to do.  A few popular tourist destinations in the area that are definitely worth visiting are; Pier 39 where shops and restaurants line the streets serving some of the best seafood imaginable.  A fun activity offered by jewelry gift shops is to select an oyster, open it and make a necklace from the pearl found within.  Located within walking distance of Pier 39 is Ghirardelli Square, a nationally famous chocolate maker with a take-out ice cream counter for fast sundae while you enjoy the waterfront view.  Not far from there is Chinatown, for the fast-paced vibe of the Asian country where many only dreams of visiting, now you can literally have a taste of it in California.

All in all, Northern California has a lot to offer including many beautiful national parks such as Redwood National Park where the tallest tree is located standing at 379 feet tall.  It is a great place to visit with one-of-a-kind sights that are sure to create a very memorable experience.
